El Cid: Aqueros, Pilgrims and some casualty markers

Time for another update of the El Cid Christian Spanish project. This weekend after posting the last update I was able to spray the primer on 8 more Caballeros, 8 Aqueros, 8 Armed Pilgrims and some casualty markers. The Caballeros are still being painted but the rest are ready to join the battle line.

Five Hail Caesar casualty markers
Following on from preparation for the huge Dark Ages game I did with James Morris and friends it was found that the best way to mark casualties was to add a unit filler with a spear and mark casualties with hoops. So I've made five for this project too using the Perry Miniatures First Crusade Dead and Wounded pack

Wounded Caballeros infantry unit filler

Wounded Peon infantry unit filler

I also purchased two packs of the Armed Pilgrims to use as skirmishers, there are another four to do, but here are the first eight.

Here are some close ups:

The last eight figures are Aqueros these are the Perry Miniatures Archers, again there are another four let to do.

Again, here is some extreme close ups

I'm well through the 1500pt mark as a WAB army now. There are eight Caballeros on the painting table and all there is left to complete after that is:

  • 1 Infante
  • 7 Caballeros
  • 4 Aqueros
  • 4 Armed Pilgrims
  • 21 Armoured Spearmen to use as either Mercenary or Guard Spearmen
The end of the pile for this lot is definitely in sight. I can see this army making an appearance at Hot Lead at Gripping Beast on the 1st July
