Lieutenant General the Earl of Uxbridge

Another British commander from the Wargames Foundry "The Duke of Wellington and Staff" set joins the Anglo-allied forces for my Hundred Days collection.

Lieutenant General the Earl of Uxbridge, Henry Paget, commanded the Anglo-allied cavalry during the campaign and famously lost a leg to one of the last cannon shots at Waterloo.

The model is lovely, with a really detailed leopard skin that allowed me to go to town a little.

The Earl of Uxbridge is accompanied on his stand by an officer from the Royal Dragoon Guards.

"By God, sir, I've lost my leg!", "By God, sir, so you have!"

Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Picton and Major-General Sir Dennis Pack

Another command base for the Anglo-allies.

Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Picton and Major-General Sir Dennis Pack and are from the Wargames Foundry "The Duke of Wellington and Staff" set.

Sir Thomas does not appear to sit on his horse too well, maybe it's the injuries sustained a couple of days earlier at Quatre Bras. 

Both however were delightful figures to paint up.

I had painted this pair back in March for the AHPC and they have already been used in many games, but today realised that I'd not shared them on the blog!

Lieutenant General Sir Rowland Hill and Major General Sir James Kempt

Our last game of General d'Armee showed that I needed more commanders for the Anglo-allies do I dug into the Wargames Foundry "The Duke of Wellington and Staff" set and painted up Lieutenant General Sir Rowland Hill and Major General Sir James Kempt from the pack. 

Lieutenant General Sir Rowland Hill is the mounted figure and Major General Sir James Kempt is the one on foot.

The model of Kempt is tiny, I initially put a Perry Miniatures Sergeant on the base too, but as Kempt is only 23mm foot too eye it looked very unbalanced.

I've also been working on another pair from this set and will get those posted over the next few days.

American Civil War: Union (11)

It's a sad state of affairs when you run low on figures to paint for a particular project, but that happened this week when I polished off the last few unpainted figures for the Union faction for the ACW project.

The mix of miscellany was the Union half of a pack of Perry Miniatures ACW Casualties, a Wargames Foundry Zouave that chum Seth gave me and a Warbases badger from Drew - we do live in the Badger State after all, although the American badger is similar to the European badger they are not entirely the same and I did mine as Brock.

The figure drought is over though, I assembled another unit of Union cavalrymen while on vacation and the post from the UK arrived with packages from Warbases and Arcane Scenery in the past few days.

American Civil War: Confederates (2)

It's been the long Thanksgiving weekend here in Wisconsin and I've cracked on apace with the Sharp Practice American Civil War collection. Along with assembling two boxes of Perry Miniatures cavalry, cleaning up some dismounted cavalry castings and building terrain (more of that in another post) I also managed to crack on with the Confederate infantry.

Sixteen more riflemen join the collection and are joined by a officer to start issuing some order to the ranks.

Chum Seth donated a Wargames Foundry Darkest Africa explorer to the collection and I painted him as a man of substance in a uniform of fine cloth.

Here are a few individual shots of the rank and file.

There are only twelve more figures left from the Perry American Civil War Confederate infantry box and all have some paint on them. I plan to get a dozen dismounted Confederate cavalry done next then I'll make a start on the mounted contingent for both sides.

I reckon there shall be enough painted for a game over the Christmas break.

Minor Characters (1)

While rummaging in the bits box I also found four figures that shall be useful as Minor Characters in our Sharp Practice games set in the American Civil War. Sometimes it's good to ferret at the bottom of the lead mountain!

The first chap can do service as a commercial traveller, doctor or spy. He's checking his pocket watch and carries a leather valet. This is the Wargames Foundry Doctor model.

Next up is an exploring officer in fringed jacket.  This is the Wargames Foundry Buffalo Bill Cody figure.

I like to think of this one as Peggy the Senators 'ahem' Niece. A nice easy figure to paint, although now in the image I see the terrible mould line down her right arm! Not sure what range this one is from, I've failed to locate her browsing the usual suspects.

Finally an agent of Pinkerton, giving great service to the Confederacy by running intelligence services for the Union. This one is a Wargames Foundry model.

More Republican Romans and some re-based Punics

I've been slowly working my way through this box of Victrix Republican Romans* and this week finished off my second unit of five Velites and a unit of seven Triarii.

This pretty much completes my first Alae, I just plan to add another unit of Velites in Wolf-skin and a command stand - these are on my painting table at the moment.

*Actually, two half boxes, James and I split a box each of the mail armoured and bronze armoured ones.

I have also been busy re-basing the existing Carthaginian collection. So far thsi past couple of weeks I have done eight stands of African Spearmen / Veterans.

Two Elephants along with Hannibal himself.

Plus another general, a unit of Numidian skirmishers and two Bolt Throwers.

I am pretty close to getting all the Carthaginians re-based now. I think a couple more units of African Spearmen, three or four units of Numidian Horse and five or six units of Skirmishers should see it through.
