Bataljon Jagers No. 27

I have been cracking on with a larger unit of Dutch-Belgian infantry for the Hundred Days collection.

The 27th Light Battalion was part of van Bylandt's Brigade, taking part in both the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo.

All the figures are from the Front Rank range now available from Gripping Beast.

Some close up's of the individual bases showing warts and all including what appears to be some terrible mould lines I missed in clean-up.

Three bases of skirmishers were also added to bolster the brigade skirmish line in our GdA2 games

There were five flank company figures left and a single centre company, so this base is a bit of a mash-up.

This unit brings to an end my participation in another years Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge I hope the momentum that built up these past three months for painting and blogging can be maintained.

2nd Regiment Wisconsin Volunteers

 

I currently live in Wisconsin in the heart of the Midwest and one of the most notable Union formations of the American Civil War is the Iron Brigade. One of its founding units was the 2nd Regiment Wisconsin Volunteers raised at Camp Randall, which is still there and although it's now the UW Badgers Football stadium, but there are plenty of Civil War era cannons on the grounds, so that is a bonus!

The regiment was heavily engaged with the Army of the Potomac and suffered more casualties as a proportion of its total enlistment than any other Union Army units.

The models are all from the Crusader Miniatures range are both characterful and a delight to paint. However, although the frock coats and 1858 Dress Hat are great, but they probably should have linen gaiters to represent the 2nd Wisconsin.

To give a bit of variety I did some of the men in the older issue dark blue trousers and some in later light blues, I also mixed it up a bit with the water bottle and strap colours.

The flags are from GMB Designs, and after previous efforts I managed not to get a chalky varnish effect on these ones, by the simple expedient of not sticking them on until after the matt coat!

6th Regiment of Dragoons - The Inniskillings

 

Another win against the pile-o-shame are the 6th Regiment of Dragoons for my 1815 Anglo-Allied force.

I painted the other units in the Union Brigade (1st Dragoons and 2nd Dragoons) over two years ago so these are very tardy - not usually a trait of British heavy cavalry.

The figures are all from Brigade Games sculpted by the very talented Paul Hicks.

I do find painting cavalry a chore, but at least the unit and brigade are now finished and my WIP backlog pretty much cleared in time for the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge that starts on this coming Thursday.

Like the Exploring office, I had to use Testors "not very" Dullcote, but I now have some leads on some W&N Professional Matt varnish.

Some individual shots of the Dragoon stands showing the detail on these lovely Hicksy sculpts.

The flag is from GMB Designs, and as ever a great piece. It may not show in the pictures, but I went for a scarlet jacket on the officer, while the rest of the troops got a darker, duller red.

4th Maine Infantry Regiment

 Because of previous rules sets played, my collection of Union troops for the American Civil War contains quite a lot of stands of troops, but not a lot of command stands. As I'm now playing mainly Pickett's Charge or Longstreet I need to get some more command painted, but don't need that many infantry.

So, this entry looks like a small unit representing the 4th Maine Infantry Regiment, but once some of the surplus stands already in the collection are added it will be fielded at a more normal six to ten stand strength.

All the figures come from the American Civil War Union Infantry 1861-65 set of plastics, and I've assembled these infantry in this unit at right shoulder shift.

The pair standards are from GMB Designs.

Looks like a made a bit of a mess of basing though, that guy with the red neckerchief seems to be wandering off to his left, the sergeants need to get that sorted!

7th Netherlands National Militia Battalion

I'm clearing the decks before I get started proper on the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge and these fellows have been stalled in a partially painted state for far too long.

The figures were all from Front Rank before they stopped fulfilling orders, and hopefully will soon be available from Gripping Beast after the transfer is completed as I'll be needing a few more.

I really don't know why these took so long to paint, but I found them really tedious, despite the much simpler uniforms than other Napoleonic troops I've painted recently, maybe it was that they are all in the same pose with no variety.

The colour is from GMB Designs.

I plan to try to recreate Bylandt's Brigade so I'll need two more Militia battalions, a Line and a Light battalion.

I chose to do my flank companies with the white over orange plumes.

Despite taking so long to clear the backlog I'm happy how they came out, hopefully the next batch will not take so long.

Landwehr Battalion Hameln

While painting the recent Hanoverian skirmishers (here and here) I thought that it would actually be rather nice to field a full battalion of these lovely figures from Front Rank so I set some aside for adding to a formed unit.

I ordered some more firing line and command and also enough stuff for another couple of battalions marching in shakoes not long before the ordering portal was taken off line.

It's great to note that the Front Rank range has now been acquired by Gripping Beast and that the range will be available again from the middle of this month.

I've painted these to represent Landwehr Battalion Hameln part of 5th Hanoverian Brigade of Thomas Pictons 5th Division during the Hundred Days campaign.

The standards are from GMB Designs and it's not known what colour they should be but a pair of white works for me.

I also based up one of the officers singly, he'll make a great commander for our Sharpe Practice games.

That's two new units of red coats and a load of Anglo-allied commanders painted in the past couple of weeks, I'm itching for a game with them.
