4th North Carolina Infantry Regiment

Following on from last weeks Confederate firing line, another unit is ready to trade volleys with the blue bellies. This time it's the 4th North Carolina Infantry Regiment again using figures from the Crusader Miniatures range.

The standards are from Flags of War and represent the battle honours from 1862, many more battle honours were added before the surrender at Appomattox Court House in 1865.

I've added a lot more butternut to this unit than my earlier units. I thought I needed a break from the greys, so we are about half and half with browns and greys in this unit.

25th Virginia Infantry Regiment

Todays' update is a Confederate firing line of Crusader Miniatures representing the 25th Virginia Infantry Regiment that saw service from 1861 to 1865.

The figures were picked up from North Star, while the standards are from Flags of War. Given the battle honours depicted on the battle flag I suspect that it represents the unit in 1864.

As all my Confederate infantry so far is from the Perry plastics it's pretty much entirely in the advancing or right shoulder shift poses, so a firing line adds some variety to the collection.

These really are lovely figures and I've already started another unit of them that I'll continue to work on during my Cornish vacation and hope to be able to post next week.

I took a few pictures of the whole unit deployed in line, but for whatever reason they came out a bit blurry.

54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment

 

A new unit musters for my Union forces with the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment the second African-American regiment in the Union forces and made more famous in the 1989 film Glory.

All the figures come from the American Civil War Union Infantry 1861-65 set of plastics, and I've assembled the infantry in this unit at right shoulder shift, the African-American heads are from the supplementary set available.

The pair of standards are from Flags of War.

36th Pennsylvania Volunteers

 

More Blue Bellies for the ACW collection, this time the 36th Pennsylvania Volunteer Regiment, made up of Crusader Miniatures picked up from North Star.

It's a fairly small range that is often overlooked, but it's giving some nice variety to my forces that were previously all Perry Miniatures.

They are a little thinner than the Perry figures but do mix well on the table, but, I'd not have them in the same units.

I saved a couple of bare footed figures from the Fighting 69th I added last time, this is probably a better shot of one of them. Don't fancy walking over that patch of rocks before him though!

The standards are from the Flags of War range and I've managed not to fog them this time. 

When there is a trim, like on this pair I do like to cut a few notches out of it and leave the edge a little less tidy. The fringe is then repainted in bronze, then gold with some thin black lines added so it looks like a fringe rippling rather than a solid block.

14th Virginia Infantry Regiment

Another regiment of infantry musters for the Confederates with the 14th Virginia Infantry Regiment advancing to the fore.

All the figures are from the Perry Miniatures American Civil War Confederate Infantry 1861-65 set, the troops this time assembled in right shoulder shift.

I also finished off the last few Confederate infantry figures I had creating a command stand that will be the foundation of a Mississippi regiment at a later date.
