Star Wars: Legion - Jyn Erso

My final post for teh Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge X was a Jyn Erso to lead my Rebel forces for our Star Wars: Legion games. I picked her up at the local hobby store that still seems to be doing quite well in the circumstances and are offering both kerbside pickup and home delivery in the area.

She's quite drab, and I used a bunch of WWII colours to achieve this including Russian Uniform, Luftwaffe Uniform, Field Grey and Brown Violet but I think it's a close palette for her look.

I'm not that happy with how I painted her face so may go back and re-do that later.

Also included with the priority supplies set is five packing crates that I finished off this morning. It's not that obvious in the photo but the light coloured ones have quite a lot of Aurebesh text on them for that Star Wars feel.

I've been looking to make some terrain for our games and I rushed this test piece out. The dome is florists "Oasis" covered in Polyfiller with a doorway made out of foam-core. The whole lot was sealed with PVA glue then primed and a quick paint job done.

Victoria and I plan to work on a lot more terrain for our games but it is a start. I just ordered a few 3D printed buildings from Etsy so hopefully they will be here in a few weeks.

Star Wars: Legion - Rebel Commandos

More Star Wars: Legion again this post with a group of Rebel Commandos and some more battlefield accessories from the Priority Supplies set.

I painted the previous Rebel Troopers with a consistent palette, but using the colours in different places. For the Commandos I wanted them more uniform so they all have the same tunic, the same trousers, etc. and although they have camouflage smocks I used a consistent pattern on them with all done in large amoebas of German Camo Beige and Chocolate Brown on a base of Russian Uniform.

I finished off the camouflage smocks by outlining each amoeba in black rather like the scheme used on early WWII French tanks.

I did a couple of Vaporators earlier this month and in this session added another one along with a Comms Station from the pack.

I think that simple additions like these to our battlefields will make them more set in the Star Wars universe.

The Mon Calamari with the DH-447 sniper rifle is a lovely model, although I notice that the barrel is quite badly bent upwards in this shot. While writing this blog post I had a cup of tea and while it was still hot dipped the offending article in the tea and bent it back into shape, one of the advantages of these soft plastic figures.

I do like this female commander that comes in the set, the pony-tail handing down her back is a nice touch, but I'm not entirely sure that it's practical for the battlefield.

The Dressellian Commando is rather lovely, I misread the race on Wookiepedia though and Dressalians are supposed to have tan coloured skin, mine is pink, I like how it came out though.

He does sport a rather fetching eye patch!

Last model of mine to get a showcase is the Proton Charge Saboteur, priming his charges and ready to cause chaos and destruction.

I've probably gone a bit overboard on this project, looking at the rules a standard game is 800 points. I did a quick tot-up the other evening and without upgrades I'm well over that already.

Victoria has also been painting and has finished this rather splendid R4 unit that I thought I should share with you all.

Star Wars: Legion - Rebel Troopers (3)

I picked up the Rebel Troopers upgrade expansion pack last week and have been adding these to the forces.

It's a great pack containing four more alien Rebel troopers that can be built as standard rebels or heavy/special weapon upgrades.

I did the Ithlorian and the Gran as standard troopers with A-280 blaster rifles.

The Ishi Tib mutant (with dark red rather than green skin) is a Rebel Captain while the Theelin is armed with a DLT-20A long-ranged blaster rifle.

To me, Vaporators really do evoke the Star Wars universe and I was chuffed to find that the Priority Supplies Battlefield Expansion contained four of them.

These were painted in the same scheme as the barricades that I've already done and seem to blend in nicely.

War of the Spanish Succession Danes (1)

The Snow Lord's Peak challenge saw a request for me to paint something for the  6mm War of the Spanish Succession collection.

Looking in the pile of shame I had a lot of stuff that really could not be used to make units, I have lots pike-men and grenadiers but no musketeers, stacks of mounted dragoons, but no dismounted, etc. but I did find enough cavalry for four units of horse.

As time was of the essence to complete the challenge I did two squadrons from the Danish 5 Jydske Regiment, or at least I think that is what it says in my Condray, which appears to be a photo-copy of a photo-copy of a photo-copy.

To make up the numbers I also found some cattle in the backlog so four bases of  these completed the ensemble.

Mr & Mrs Scrivs play some Star Wars: Legion

Followers of the blog will know that Victoria and I have started painting and collecting our own forces for Star Wars: Legion. Victoria has been painting the Imperials and I've been painting the Rebel Alliance.

Today we were at the stage when we had (more than) enough stuff painted to play the Learning Battle from the Learn to Play guide that comes in the box set.

 Darth Vader with two units of Stormtroopers supported by a pair of 74-Z Speeder Bikes takes on Luke Skywalker supported by two units of Rebels and an AT-RT.

The battle was set up with the barricades as described, but we also added a couple of Vaporators that I had got painted too.

Early moves were quite cagey, both sides rushed to get into cover while the Speeder Bikes rushed up the table.

I should have been more aware of the rules for the Speeder bikes though, damned they are fast and were soon around behind me, supported by accurate blaster fire from the Stormtroopers the Speeders had soon wiped out one of my units of Rebel troopers.

Darth Vader may be slow, but he packs a punch, he was heading up the center of the table to take on Luke who was trying to assist against the Speeder bikes, although the Rebels were pouring fire into him he was shrugging off most of the hits. Luke turned, charged into Darth and deftly finished him off.

With his second activation, Luke continued into a unit of Stormtroopers behind, killing three of their number. The Stormtroopers disengaged, stepping back, they opened a fire lane for their colleagues who gunned Luke down.

By this time the remaining Speeder bike was destroyed and a desultory last couple of turns passed with the game finishing with four Rebels plus an AT-RT on the table against seven Stormtroopers.

Both sides had achieved a couple of units destroyed and adding up the points it was a minor victory to the Rebels.

We will certainly be playing some more.

Star Wars: Legion - Luke Skywalker

Today sees the completion of the last Rebel figure from the Star Wars: Legion basic set with Luke Skywalker joining the rebellion.

Like all the other figures, although cast in quite a soft plastic he is rather well done with very little clean up and a tiny bit of putty on his arm joints.

It's an early Luke, from before all that losing his hand business and he is armed with his fathers Lightsaber and a DL-44 blaster.

Although the figure is given a spray of dull-coat I went back over the Lightsaber with gloss varnish to try and get an effect, I think it's OK but I may try something else when I do another.

The Rebels are now complete and ready to do battle with the forces of the Empire, which is good, as Victoria only has to finish Darth Vader on her side.
