Agincourt 1415

Hopefully this will help stop Tango01 from misappropriating my content

A fixture clash meant that I was not able to run my Agincourt game at Rockcon a couple of weeks ago, so I ran it on this last Friday evening at Noble Knight Games.

We used To The Strongest! for the game.

The battlefield is a ploughed field, any Men at Arms, on foot or mounted, attempting to move or charge count as a difficult activation.
To represent the problems caused when the French horse recoiled into their infantry, when mounted men at arms are broken they are subject to the Rampage rule (p.52)

The unit carrying the Oriflamme can always redraw the chit if they fail to make a charge move.

Great leaders are a sort of special senior attached general.  A great leader's exceptional qualities enable him to play two replacement activation cards or to-hit cards in a single turn, rather than the usual one. Great leaders are also exceptional warriors and when wounded, play two injury cards and pick the lowest.
English archers may perform an arrow storm, drawing three chits for shooting rather than two as a difficult activation if they are shooting at an enemy within range 2, an extra ammunition token is expended.

The battlefield is a ploughed field, any Men at Arms attempting to move or charge count as a difficult activation.

Kevin played the English while Bruce and I took the French.

At the end of the day it was an English victory with a terrible toll among the French nobility, whose Generals never seemed to make a save.

  1. Outstanding looking game, Paul! Good to see history books did not need to undergo revision.

    1. Thanks Jonathan. I think this was the best the English have done.

  2. Very impressive, Scrivs! Lots of lovely figures. I forgot you were in WI. Must be getting chilly.

    1. Thanks Dean, yes, we have had 6" of snow already. A record for October!

  3. Thank you for running again. Always different each game; though yet to see French decisively breakthrough - which is modelled well in the special rules for this game. Like how nobles actions and loss are decisive in these rules.

  4. Superb, so many splendid units on a single table...one blame, the French defeat with French nobility losses, but otherwise the battle report is perfect!

    1. Hi Phil, sometimes we have to get an historical outcome ;)
Actually it's quite a hard battle to balance which is why I always make it very claustrophobic and give the French quite difficult command problems to prevent them overwhelming the English.

  5. Lovely looking game! Splendid figures, surprised to see longbows do well in TtS! too!

    1. The longbow never seem to do that well, more a case of occasionally getting a disorder that means the French pause/break up

  6. Great to see these boys in action. Brilliant collection in an attractive table top setting. TTS intrigues me with its apparent simplicity.
Keep warm out there old chap! Best wishes,
    Jeremy

    1. Cheers Jeremy, it's already dropped a couple of days below -10C, recon we are in for a stinger this year.

  7. I seem to recall Cornwallis saying something negative about targeting officers in "The Patriot", but as an American playing the English here I guess I ignored that.

    1. Thanks Kevin, the rules changed between 1415 and then. Nobility was fair game, especially if you could capture them for ransom.
